The Park Record reports:
On Saturday, Park City native Jamie Crane-Mauzy, a slopestyle skier, suffered a traumatic brain injury at the AFP World Championships at Whistler Blackcomb in British Columbia, Canada.
Competing in the slopestyle finals, she crashed on her second run of the competition while attempting a double flatspin.
Crane-Mauzy, 22, was placed in a medically induced coma at the hospital, but regained consciousness on April 14. She is currently recovering at Vancouver General Hospital, where doctors expect she will remain for another two to three weeks before returning to Utah.
A post on Crane-Mauzy’s Facebook page said the family is hopeful that she will return to full health.
“The Crane-Mauzy family remains positive, hopeful and touched by the encouraging positivity from thousands of Jamie’s friends and fans,” the post said. “At this time, Jamie’s family requests privacy in order to focus on Jamie’s health, as doctors continue to assess her condition.”
At the Aspen X Games in 2013, Crane-Mauzy became the first female skier to land a double backflip in a competition. She was also the first female skier to land a backflip off a rail in a competition, which she also did in 2013.
The U.S. Ski Team is collecting letters and cards for Crane-Mauzy. Send well wishes to:
